On Race & Identity

Let me start by saying I am not, in any way, an expert on race relations or cultural identity. Nor am I an authority on the experience anyone else has had in this world based on their identified race, ethnicity, etc.

What I am, however, is a participant in that conversation. As a half-white, half-Hispanic (Mexican) woman, I can tell you firsthand that race and ethnicity can play a massive role in your identity.

That’s because ethnicity can be:

The literal composition of your DNA

What you identify as

What others assume you are, and therefore identify you as

Hidden Identities

These issues are always important, but they came to the forefront for me earlier this week…
